Northern and Remote Composting Systems
There is plenty of mystique about northern Canada, the epic landscapes, extreme climate and the abundance of wildlife. But there is no need to be mystified about composting in the sub-arctic. Don’t be fooled by the common myths that it’s too cold to compost outside or that compost will attract bears and other critters.
Although these are important issues to consider, we have the experience and expertise to help your northern composting project succeed. BCE has proven techniques and systems that can help small communities and remote sites safely produce quality compost affordably. With experience in composting everything from slaughter waste to food waste, even hydrocarbon contaminated soil, we know what it takes to do it right even if it’s 40 below.
Compost Cleaning Technology
Many commercial composting operations are trying to find solutions to the growing contamination problem. From micro-plastics to engine blocks, physical contaminants undermine organics diversion programs and destroy compost quality. In answer to this, BCE has spent many years in the field developing and perfecting its unique, patented technologies that clean compost effectively and reliably. Our equipment upgrades compost quality, transforming a potential liability into an asset, creating new opportunities for producers.
Our current focus is on developing and advancing the state of the art to meet the needs of a range of applications. In particular, we continue to develop the concept of the integrated “cleaning and screening” model for smaller sites of less than 3000 tons per year. At the other end of the spectrum, we are concerned with developing high-capacity cleaning technologies for sites greater than 100,000 tons per year. As our understanding of plastic contamination and environmental pollution evolves, we are also looking more closely at micro-plastic separation techniques. Consulting, Custom Design and Fabrication
Due to the unique multidisciplinary approach and capabilities that BCE can bring to bear on many challenges, we are occasionally asked to work on innovative, outside the box projects. The sectors that we will work in are agriculture and food production systems, all things compost related, and other fields of waste management. We have undertaken a wide variety of projects in these fields that have involved feasibility studies, replicated multi-year field trials, contaminant measurement studies through to custom equipment design, fabrication and prototyping for third parties. We have worked with municipalities, First Nation governments, non-profits and private businesses to solve technical challenges and provide answers to questions that often begin with “Nobody has done something quite like this before….” If you have an unusual project in mind and can’t get answers, we would be happy to discuss it with you and see if we can help.
